New MacBook Pro 2026: M6 vs PROLED XDR With M5 Max, and Is It Good for Gaming?

Apple announced two new MacBook Pro models in the last week of October 2026: a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, and a premium MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max.

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6

Announced October 27, the M6 model has a 12-core CPU that Apple calls the world's fastest CPU core, and a 12-core GPU with up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance than M5. Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours. Apple says M1 owners get up to 11x faster graphics.

MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display

Announced October 28, this model pairs tandem OLED technology with Apple's display engine, which Apple calls the world's best laptop display. It uses M5 Pro or M5 Max with enhanced shader cores and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. Apple specifically mentions faster performance in Blender, Unreal Engine and AAA games. Pre-orders opened October 28, with availability from November 6.

Are the new MacBook Pros good for gaming?

Mac hardware keeps getting more powerful, and ray tracing on M5 Max is a real upgrade. The limit is still the game library: many popular PC games, especially competitive shooters with anti-cheat, are not available on macOS. Buy a MacBook Pro for creative work and battery life, with gaming as a bonus. If gaming is your priority, a Windows laptop is still better value.
