When did Charting the Unknown release in India?
Pearl Abyss published a global release-time notice on October 28. The DLC went live at 22:00 UTC, so in India it opened at 3:30 AM IST on Friday, October 30. That equals 3 PM Pacific and 6 PM Eastern on October 29. PlayStation players could pre-download 24 hours earlier, while on other platforms the files became available at launch. A base-game update patch shipped at the same time, and you must install it before starting the DLC.
The expansion was first dated for October 15 and was pushed back by roughly two weeks. A Korean report said the studio wanted extra time to make the game stable and the content complete.
What is new in Charting the Unknown?
The official patch notes split the expansion into four pillars.
- New stories: one new quest each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. They appear in the Journal after you finish the main story quest "Journey's End".
- Ocean exploration: a new quest called "A Wider World", a breath gauge for diving, ships as a new mount, underwater mounts, uncharted islands to pioneer and treasure maps.
- A richer life in Pywel: a free-construction housing mode, two decorable castles, facility management, festivals at camp, a flirt-and-marriage trust system, 17 residences and a "Banker's Dice" minigame.
- New threats: the Garden of Trials, new gear and several new bosses, some of which can be rematched with Memory Fragments.
How does ocean exploration and diving work?
Diving is built around a breath gauge. The bigger your breath capacity, the longer you can stay under, and you raise the cap by refining your diving suit. There are also food items that restore breath for a short time, and equipment that lets the A.T.A.G operate underwater.
Ships are a brand-new mount type. You can have one built through a dispatch mission or buy one from a fleetmaster, then customise it with parts sold in Demeniss and Delesyia. Ships can also be used for maritime trading, with new trade goods added for it. Underwater mounts work like other animals: subdue or feed them to raise Trust, then register them once the bar is high enough.
The pre-order bonus was a set of diving outfits, the Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka and a lighter version for Damiane. Epic's coverage noted that Pearl Abyss had not said whether they affect gameplay or are only cosmetic.

Can you marry in Crimson Desert now?
Yes. The DLC adds an extra level of Trust that you raise through the Interact menu with Flirt, then Gift or Chat. Each interaction type can raise the bar once a day per NPC. When it hits 100 you can propose, and some characters need special conditions: witches, for example, require you to finish their sanctum quests.
After marriage your spouse's icon shows on the map and minimap, you can travel together and they may give you gifts. You can change their look at a barber shop, assign them a residence, or end the relationship, though breaking up costs you. One catch: flirting with an NPC as one playable character lowers that NPC's trust with the other two.
What is the Garden of Trials?
This is the combat challenge. It unlocks after "Journey's End" and contains 10 groups of enemies, including bosses you met earlier. You can enter alone or with up to three characters (Kliff, Oongka and Damiane), and you pick the order. If one falls, the next steps in. Food cannot be used for healing inside, and every cleared group upgrades one of your existing skills. It sits near the Axiom Archive Abyss.
Do you need to finish the story first?
Not entirely. Some content opens early: the ocean questline starts after the "Howling Hill" main quest and once your Greymane camp has grown to a certain level, while the individual character quests, the Garden of Trials and one of the castles need "Journey's End". The upgraded housing mode needs Luke's Request from the "Grounds of the Sunrise" quests plus the Howling Hill camp.
Also note that save files made while the DLC is installed cannot be loaded, or used for cross-save, on a version of the game without the DLC.
Any PC and graphics changes in patch 2.04.00?
Yes, one useful one for PC players. Upscaling and frame generation can now be selected separately, so you can mix technologies, for example DLSS upscaling with FSR frame generation. The patch also fixed frame drops on the Ethereal Pathway and a long list of bugs, and it made the map clearer with trade routes always visible and colour-coded region status. If you are still choosing a GPU for a heavy open-world game, our Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements guide shows what current big releases ask for.
Is Charting the Unknown worth $24.99?
It is not a story-focused expansion. It is more a bundle of systems, ocean travel, housing, romance and a boss gauntlet, layered on top of an already large game. If you wanted sailing, building and a life-sim side, it is a strong pitch. If you only care about the main story, wait for early impressions and reviews. Xbox players can try the base game with a 5-hour free trial running until early January. Planning your next purchases? See our list of November 2026 game releases.
