Netflix is developing a live-action PUBG series, and Donald Glover is attached to write, direct, executive produce and star in it. Krafton, the Korean publisher behind the battle royale, confirmed the project on October 29, 2026 (October 30 in Korea and India). No release date, cast beyond Glover, or story details have been announced, so this is an early-development announcement rather than a greenlit season with a premiere window.

PUBG Netflix series: quick summary

Who is making the PUBG series?

The announcement puts the Glover brothers at the centre. Donald Glover, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for Atlanta, is billed as writer, director, executive producer and lead actor. Stephen Glover, who also wrote on Atlanta and later worked on Mr. & Mrs. Smith, joins as writer and executive producer.

The producer list also includes Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, Fam Udeorji of Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee from LV3H, Krafton's entertainment arm. Korean outlet Edaily notes that LV3H was created last June as a rebrand of the former PUBG Entertainment, and it is the unit driving the franchise's push into video content. Deadline reports the deal came together after lengthy negotiations.

When is the PUBG Netflix series coming out?

Nobody has said. Neither Netflix nor Krafton gave a premiere date, a season length, a cast list or a plot synopsis. The Wrap pointed out that PUBG has no deep story to adapt directly, so the writers have a lot of room, and it is unclear what the show will actually be about. Treat any plot theory you see online as speculation until Netflix releases real details.

Is this the first PUBG adaptation attempt?

No. Deadline notes that Krafton announced plans for a PUBG movie and TV series back in 2020, and that an animated series from Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar was announced in 2021 and was previously in development at Netflix. This new live-action project is a different take led by Glover.

The game itself has changed names along the way. It launched in 2017 as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and is now officially called PUBG: Battlegrounds. Deadline adds that the franchise has set seven Guinness World Records.

Why is Netflix betting on PUBG now?

PUBG is still a huge game. Polygon reports that in a typical month it averages more than 300,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, with a 2026 peak of 1.29 million and an all-time peak above 3.2 million. That is a built-in audience even if the show has to invent its own story.

It also fits a pattern. Netflix already has a live-action Assassin's Creed series and a Gears of War film in the works, plus animated projects based on Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans, an Overcooked-inspired competition series, and more seasons of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch and Devil May Cry, according to Polygon and Deadline.

What does it mean for PUBG and BGMI fans in India?

Indian players know the franchise mostly through BGMI, Krafton's India-specific battle royale. The announcement is about the PUBG brand as a whole, and nothing in the official details says how the series will be released or marketed in India, or whether BGMI will tie in. We will update this page if Krafton shares anything. For now, the series is a long way from the screen.

If you are tracking what to play and watch soon, our November 2026 game releases list covers the games actually arriving in the next few weeks.

What we still don't know

Keep in mind that development announcements do not always end in a released show. Netflix's PUBG project has big names attached, but it has no date yet.
