Xbox Cloud Gaming is about to stop being unlimited. From November 2026, every Game Pass plan comes with a fixed number of cloud hours each month, and Microsoft says the change will affect about 4% of subscribers. Here is what the limits are, what happens when you run out, and who should worry.

Quick summary

What are the new Xbox Cloud Gaming limits?

Xbox Wire confirmed that "beginning in November" Game Pass plans include a set monthly allowance. Today eligible subscribers stream without hour caps, so this is a real change in what the subscription gives you.

Essential5$9.99
Premium10$14.99
Ultimate15$22.99

Microsoft has not said when in November the caps start, how you will check remaining time, or what extra hours cost. It promised to share pricing, eligible games, market availability and how to track your time before the change takes effect. India-specific details have not been given, and Xbox notes that hours and options may vary by market.

Will the cloud hour cap affect you?

Fifteen hours is roughly 30 minutes a day. If you mainly play on a console or PC and use the cloud occasionally to try a game, or to play on a TV, you may never hit it. If the cloud is your main way to play, for example on a low-end laptop, a phone-sized screen or an old Xbox One, the cap will bite quickly. Microsoft itself says it understands that "for some players the practical result is a higher cost."

For comparison, Club386 points out that NVIDIA's GeForce Now offers 100 hours on both of its paid tiers, although it does not include a game library. We covered the pricing of that service for Indian players in our GeForce Now India plans guide.

Can you use Xbox Cloud Gaming without Game Pass?

Yes, according to Microsoft. Also from November, players can buy cloud playtime hours in the Xbox Store and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. That will not include Game Pass library games. Microsoft says this is aimed at occasional use, and at Xbox One owners who want to try games built for Xbox Series X|S without upgrading hardware right away.

Why is Microsoft adding limits?

The official reason is cost: the more people stream and the longer they play, the more it costs to provide. Club386 adds that the ongoing memory price crisis is likely raising infrastructure costs, but that is the outlet's reading, not something Microsoft stated. Our look at Xbox's latest earnings shows the broader pressure on the business.

What should Indian players do now?

The key thing to watch is the price of extra hours. Until Microsoft publishes it, nobody can say whether heavy users face a small top-up or a much larger bill.
