Claude Personal Finance: Plaid Bank Access Explained

Anthropic has launched Personal Finance in Claude, a beta feature that connects the chatbot to your bank and card accounts through the Plaid bridging platform, according to The Verge. You can ask things like "where did my money go this month" and get a spending breakdown by category.
Quick summary
- Connects bank and card accounts through Plaid.
- Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money.
- Rolling out in beta this week to Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.
- OpenAI added a similar Plaid-based feature to ChatGPT in May, per The Verge.
What can Claude do with your bank data?
Anthropic says Claude can build an overview of spending by category, such as rent and utilities, shopping and food. It can also answer broader questions: which bills are left before your next payday, whether you can afford something like a holiday trip, and how much you could save each month. It can explain financial terms and questions about individual balances or transactions too.
What information does Claude see?
If you grant access, Claude can see the bank name, account names, account type, the last four digits of the account number, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. Plaid handles the connection, so Claude does not see your banking passwords, and banks do not have to deal with unvetted AI bots crawling accounts.
What can't it do?
Anthropic says the feature is read-only. Claude cannot move money, manage accounts or invest, and it "isn't designed to give investment advice." Anthropic describes the feature as a first step and says bigger money decisions are best handled alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms; it is asking banks, wealth managers and financial companies to get in touch about working with it.
Who gets it, and what about India?
The beta is limited to paid Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US. No launch in India or other regions has been announced, and Plaid-style bank linking works differently in India, so do not expect it soon. For other Claude news from India's angle, see our Claude Duet access guide.
Should you connect your bank to an AI chatbot?
That is a personal call. The read-only design and the Plaid layer limit the risk, but you are still sharing two years of transactions with an AI service. Before connecting, check the permissions screen, know how to disconnect, and read Anthropic's data-use terms. Nothing here is financial advice.
More launches are tracked on our upcoming calendar.
