Hammerfell is the desert-and-coast province of the Redguards in western Tamriel, and it is where The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel appears to be set. Bethesda revealed the title on November 3, 2026, and the teaser's closing text names Hammerfell and its High Queen, Iradne. Here is the lore you need before the game arrives.

Quick summary

Where is Hammerfell on the Tamriel map?

Hammerfell sits on Tamriel's western coast. High Rock lies to the north, Skyrim to the north-east and Cyrodiil (the setting of Oblivion) to the south-east. The Iliac Bay, the area around which Daggerfall is set, separates Hammerfell from High Rock. Its islands include Stros M'Kai, the setting of the spin-off Redguard.

The province is not only sand. The Alik'r Desert covers much of the north-west, but UESP and fan wikis also describe grasslands, beaches, swamps, forests and jungle, plus the Dragontail Mountains in the east.

What is Sentinel, and why is it the game's title?

Sentinel is a major port city and kingdom on the Iliac Bay. IGN describes it as a maritime centre with a domed palace, canals and busy markets, and a long rival of Daggerfall across the water. The two clashed over the island of Betony. After the events of Daggerfall, the Iliac Bay settled into four kingdoms: Sentinel, Daggerfall, Wayrest and Orsinium.

Naming the game after the city strongly suggests it will play a central role, though Bethesda has not confirmed any gameplay. For the wider reveal, read our reveal breakdown.

Who are the Redguards?

Redguards descend from the Ra Gada, a warrior people who sailed east from the sinking continent of Yokuda and settled Hammerfell. Their culture is built around martial skill and seafaring, and they follow the Yokudan pantheon. The Imperial Library notes that the HoonDing, a god of perseverance, is of particular note for the current situation.

What does the teaser quote mean?

The text reads: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Moth Priests are scholars who read Elder Scrolls, and the sect is blinded by the work.

IGN's Jim Trinca speculates that "a victory undone" could point to Sentinel's win at the end of Daggerfall, or to the White Gold Concordat that preceded Skyrim. That treaty banned Talos worship, disbanded the Blades and ceded southern Hammerfell to the Aldmeri Dominion. That is interpretation, not confirmation.

Is the game about the Elder Scrolls themselves?

The Verge reported that Sentinel will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls and help uncover their origins. That fits the Moth Priest quote, but treat details as unconfirmed until Bethesda shows more.
