Intel Wildcat Lake Refresh Q2 2027, Moon Lake Q4: Leak Explained

Intel's next budget laptop chips now have rumoured launch windows. According to hardware leaker Jaykihn on X, Wildcat Lake Refresh is aimed at the second quarter of 2027 and Moon Lake at the fourth quarter of 2027. Notebookcheck, Digital Trends and others reported the claim on November 4. Intel has not confirmed any of this, so names, dates and specs can change.
Quick summary
- Source: Jaykihn on X, reported by Notebookcheck and Digital Trends. Unconfirmed by Intel.
- Wildcat Lake Refresh: rumoured Q2 2027, up to 4 performance + 4 low-power efficiency cores, vPro, power limits up to 35W, compute tile on Intel 18A-P.
- Moon Lake: rumoured Q4 2027, up to 4 low-power efficiency cores and no performance cores, 6W default, standard 18A.
- Who it is for: thin, cheap and fanless laptops, not gaming rigs.
What do the Wildcat Lake Refresh and Moon Lake leaks say?
The two families target opposite ends of the budget market. Wildcat Lake Refresh is the stronger one: leaks say it doubles the performance-core count of today's Wildcat Lake chips, supports Intel vPro for business laptops and can be configured up to 35W. Moon Lake is the opposite, with up to four Darkmont low-power efficiency cores, no performance cores at all and a 6W default rating, which suggests fanless laptops and passively cooled devices.
| Chip (all leaked) | Cores | Power | Process | Rumoured window |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wildcat Lake (current) | 2 P + 4 LP-E | 15W base, 10-28W | Not stated | Existing |
| Wildcat Lake Refresh | Up to 4 P + 4 LP-E | Up to 35W | 18A-P (compute tile) | Q2 2027 |
| Moon Lake | 0 P + 4 LP-E | 6W default | 18A | Q4 2027 |
The current Wildcat Lake figures come from an earlier Jaykihn spec table we covered in our Moon Lake leak report. That report said Moon Lake was not expected before 2028, so the new Q4 2027 window is a notable change, still from the same leaker.
What is Intel 18A-P and why does it matter?
18A-P is an enhanced version of Intel's 18A manufacturing process, with better performance and thermal behaviour. LavX News reports Intel put it into risk production in June 2026. Only Wildcat Lake Refresh's compute tile is rumoured to use it; Moon Lake would stay on the standard 18A node. For buyers this mostly means the Refresh could run a little faster or cooler at the same power, but nobody has benchmarks yet.
Will these chips matter for gaming?
Not directly. These are entry-level chips for school laptops, office machines, mini PCs and cheap Windows devices. Gamers should look at Intel's other 2027 plans instead: Nova Lake-S desktop chips (some with a large last-level cache to compete with AMD's X3D line) and Nova Lake-HX for high-performance laptops, rumoured under the Core Ultra 4000 branding. Our Nova Lake gaming leak covers that side.
The chips also slot into Microsoft's reported memory tiers. In the leaked roadmap we covered, the cheapest 8GB "Windows PC" tier lists Wildcat Lake, which is why this family matters for budget buyers: see Microsoft's four AI PC tiers.
Why is Intel's laptop naming getting confusing?
Digital Trends points out that picking a laptop processor is already hard, and the leaks suggest 2027 will add more names. Along with Moon Lake and Wildcat Lake Refresh, the reports mention Razor Lake-AX (the former Nova Lake-AX, a big-integrated-graphics project that Intel has acknowledged on a 2028 robotics roadmap, with consumer-laptop availability unclear) and an older Raptor Lake-HX design returning as Core 2000 HX. The practical advice is to read the exact model number and the architecture, because a newer-sounding name can hide a three-generation-old design.

Verdict: should you wait for these chips?
If you are buying a gaming laptop in India now, these chips are irrelevant; look at chips with discrete graphics instead. If you want a cheap, quiet, long-battery Windows laptop for browsing and office work, a 2027 launch is a reason to compare, not a reason to delay a purchase you need today. Treat the dates as rumours until Intel announces products, and check our launch calendar for confirmed releases.
Frequently asked questions
When will Intel Wildcat Lake Refresh launch?
Leaker Jaykihn says Wildcat Lake Refresh is targeting the second quarter of 2027. Intel has not confirmed a date, so treat it as a rumour.
When is Intel Moon Lake coming out?
Jaykihn's latest claim, reported by Notebookcheck and Digital Trends, is the fourth quarter of 2027. An earlier report suggested not before 2028, and Intel has not confirmed either.
What cores will Moon Lake have?
The leaks say up to four Darkmont low-power efficiency cores, no performance cores and a 6W default power rating, aimed at cheap and fanless devices.
Are Wildcat Lake Refresh and Moon Lake gaming chips?
No. They target budget and low-power laptops and mini PCs. Gaming-focused chips in Intel's reported roadmap include Nova Lake-S for desktops and Nova Lake-HX for laptops.
