Ubisoft has shipped a free update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla called The Most Requested Update, and the headline is the one feature fans have asked about for years: New Game+. It went live on 5 November 2026 on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. PS5 Pro owners also get an upgraded PSSR upscaler.

Quick summary

How does New Game+ work in Assassin's Creed Valhalla?

You reach New Game+ after completing the Holy Day Quest. Each time you start another loop, the game scales up in difficulty so your endgame character does not simply roll over enemies. Ubisoft's lead game designer David Larouche says the aim was to let players keep climbing in power rather than treat it as a plain do-over.

Wealth Chests behave differently here too: looting Carbon, Nickel or Tungsten in a Wealth Chest gives Platinum instead while you are in New Game+.

What is Mithril and what are the new gear upgrades?

Mithril is a new resource for upgrading divine gear. In New Game+, you earn it when you receive a piece of gear or interact with a book of knowledge you already own. It can also be bought from the Niflheim, Mastery and River Raids shops. The maximum level of every gear piece goes from 13 to 27, which gives builds a lot more room to grow.

What is Extended Progression Mode?

When switched on, gear upgrades, runes and masteries all count toward your overall power level. This gives a more granular sense of progress than before. Ubisoft says the new gear upgrade, rune and progression features are available outside New Game+ as well, so you do not need a second playthrough to use them.

What changed in the Rune Forge and Stash?

Expect some very strong combinations to turn up once players start mixing perks, a point the designer himself jokes about.

What does the PS5 Pro PSSR update do?

Ubisoft engineering studio manager Priscilla Nguyen says the upgraded PSSR is slightly more efficient than the game's existing temporal upscaler and noticeably crisper and more stable. The studio did not rework assets; it integrated the upscaler into the existing rendering pipeline. The result, according to Ubisoft, is sharper 4K image quality with the Quality mode running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. The same upscaler was already used in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Is the update free, and who gets it?

Yes, it is a free patch. It covers PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. The announcement posts do not list PC details, so check your launcher for that platform. The PSSR change applies only to PS5 Pro. Valhalla's last content update shipped years ago, and Ubisoft says it wanted to give long-time players a reason to return.

Is it worth going back to Valhalla?

If you finished the main story and wanted a harder second run with your maxed-out Eivor, this is exactly what you asked for. Browse more upcoming releases on the launch calendar and current offers on deals. For another Ubisoft story this week, see the Arkane Lyon bid report.
