GeForce NOW vs Gaming PC in India: Real Cost Breakdown

Should you rent an RTX 5080-class machine in the cloud or buy your own gaming PC in India? The numbers are lopsided. GeForce NOW Ultimate costs Rs 1,999 a month (Rs 6,999 for four months), while one estimate puts a complete RTX 5080 gaming setup at roughly Rs 3.2-3.5 lakh. But price is not the whole story, because cloud gaming comes with limits a PC does not have.
Quick summary
- GeForce NOW Performance: Rs 999 a month, or Rs 3,499 for four months (about Rs 875 a month).
- GeForce NOW Ultimate: Rs 1,999 a month, or Rs 6,999 for four months (about Rs 1,750 a month).
- A full RTX 5080 PC with monitor and peripherals is estimated at Rs 3.2-3.5 lakh in India (Outlook Respawn, citing BusinessWorld).
- Nvidia caps most paid GeForce NOW members at 100 hours a month.
How much does GeForce NOW cost in India?
GeForce NOW went fully live in India on July 15, 2026. Day passes cost Rs 399 (Performance) and Rs 799 (Ultimate). On October 29 Nvidia added four-month memberships that work out roughly 12 percent cheaper than paying monthly. We covered the launch details in our GeForce NOW India four-month plans guide.
| Plan | Monthly | Four months | Effective per month | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Rs 0 | - | Rs 0 | 1080p, 60fps, 1-hour sessions, ads, queue |
| Performance | Rs 999 | Rs 3,499 | Rs 874.75 | Up to 1440p, 60fps, 6-hour sessions |
| Ultimate | Rs 1,999 | Rs 6,999 | Rs 1,749.75 | Up to 5K, 360fps, 8-hour sessions |
How much does an RTX 5080 gaming PC cost in India?
Outlook Respawn reports that the RTX 5080 graphics card alone costs over Rs 1.4 lakh in India, and that a full tower plus a good monitor and other peripherals lands at about Rs 3.2-3.5 lakh. That is an estimate, not a fixed price, and it assumes you match what the Ultimate tier streams, which Nvidia describes as RTX 5080-class hardware. Component prices have also been rising, as we reported in our GPU price rise story.
How many years until a PC becomes cheaper than GeForce NOW?
Simple division, using the figures above and ignoring electricity, upgrades, resale value and game purchases:
| Scenario | Monthly cost | Months to reach Rs 3.2 lakh | Months to reach Rs 3.5 lakh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultimate, monthly | Rs 1,999 | about 160 (13+ years) | about 175 (14+ years) |
| Ultimate, four-month plan | Rs 1,749.75 | about 183 (15+ years) | about 200 (16+ years) |
| Performance, monthly | Rs 999 | about 320 (26+ years) | about 350 (29+ years) |
These are our own calculations from the published prices. In plain terms, you would need to stream for well over a decade before the subscription total catches up with the PC. A PC bought today will also be outdated long before that, but it keeps its resale value and lets you play offline.
What are the catches with GeForce NOW?
- 100-hour monthly cap. Nvidia enforced it on nearly all paid members from January 1, 2026, and says it affects about 6 percent of users. Extra hours are sold in blocks. At Rs 1,999 for 100 hours, that is roughly Rs 20 an hour at the cap.
- You need a good connection. Streaming quality depends on your internet speed and latency, which varies a lot across India.
- You must own the games. GeForce NOW rents hardware for games you already own on stores such as Steam or Epic, and not every title is supported.
- Queues. Busy periods can mean waiting, with higher tiers getting priority.
What about Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass?
Game Pass is priced at roughly half its US rate in India: Essential Rs 499, Premium Rs 699, Ultimate Rs 1,089 a month, according to Outlook Respawn. It is a library subscription rather than hardware rental, so you do not need to own the games. See our Game Pass India price guide and the new Xbox cloud gaming limits before choosing.
Verdict: cloud or PC?
Choose GeForce NOW if you play under about 100 hours a month, own your games already, have stable broadband, and cannot spend lakhs upfront. Choose a PC if you play heavily, want mods, offline play and a machine that also does work, or live where internet is unreliable. For many people a mix works: try a Rs 399 or Rs 799 day pass before committing. Check the deals page for free games to test with.
