Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel Officially Revealed, Hammerfell Set

The Elder Scrolls VI now has an official name: Sentinel. Todd Howard revealed The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel at the end of a video marking 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios on November 3, 2026, and Bethesda followed it with a roughly one-minute name-reveal teaser. It confirms a title that The Verge's Tom Warren reported last week (see our earlier report on the rumor). There is no gameplay, release date or platform list yet.
Quick summary
- Official title: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, shown with a logo on a bed of desert sand.
- Setting: Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland, according to Bethesda's own wording about revealing "the name and location".
- Not announced: release date or window, platforms, price, gameplay and story.
- Bethesda says: development continues, but it will be "some time" before more is shared.
What did Bethesda actually show?
The teaser drifts over wind-blown sand until an Elder Scroll is uncovered and light from it forms the Sentinel logo. It ends on an in-world quote credited to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Howard said everybody keeps asking about Elder Scrolls 6, so the anniversary felt like the right moment to say what it is called.
Is The Elder Scrolls 6 set in Hammerfell?
Bethesda's post says it is revealing the "name and location", and the quote names Hammerfell, so that is the clear reading. Sentinel is a major port city in the desert province southwest of Skyrim. Fans have seen it before in Daggerfall and in The Elder Scrolls Online's Alik'r Desert. Game Beacon notes the quote is dated 4E 206, five years after Skyrim, and that in Skyrim's lore Hammerfell stayed out of the peace treaty with the Aldmeri Dominion, which suggests a setting with a lot of unresolved conflict. That last part is interpretation, not a Bethesda statement.
The Verge reports the story will focus on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Bethesda has not confirmed that, so treat it as unconfirmed.
What is still unknown about Elder Scrolls 6?
| Question | Status on Nov 3, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Title | Confirmed: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel |
| Setting | Hammerfell (from Bethesda's teaser and post) |
| Release date or window | Not announced |
| Platforms (PC, Xbox, PS5, Switch 2) | Not announced |
| Gameplay footage | None shown |
| Price | Not announced |
PlayStation Universe points out that Bethesda has still not confirmed which platforms the game will launch on, and Todd Howard told GQ last November the game was "still a long way off". With no window given, a launch anywhere near 2027 looks unlikely, though that is our read, not a statement from Bethesda.
When will Elder Scrolls 6 release?
Nobody has said. The game was first teased at E3 in June 2018, which makes this name reveal about eight and a half years later. Skyrim turns 15 on November 11, so another small anniversary beat is possible, but Bethesda has said further news is not coming soon. We will track any date on our upcoming games calendar, and you can browse current free games and sales on the deals page while you wait.
What does the reveal mean for Elder Scrolls fans?
Practically, nothing playable yet, but the name and setting give the community something concrete to theorize about. Elder Scrolls Online is also running a free Golden Pursuits campaign called "Alik'r Awaits" until November 10 to mark the news, set in the Alik'r Desert region, per a Nintendo-Town press release summary. Skyrim is still the game to play, and our launch-week guides cover what else is arriving this month.
Will Elder Scrolls 6 come to PS5?
Unknown. Coverage notes that Bethesda is owned by Xbox and that Bethesda has not named any platform, so any claim about PS5 or Switch 2 is speculation at this point.
