GTA 6 preloading starts on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, and needs up to 212 GB of free space, Rockstar Games confirmed on November 3. That is two days earlier than the November 12 date that digital pre-order pages had shown. The game itself launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, using Rockstar's local-midnight rollout.

Quick summary

PS5 preload: midnight local time on November 10, in every time zone.
Xbox Series X|S preload: 12 AM GMT on November 10, the same moment worldwide.
Download size: up to 212 GB, depending on your device.
Boxed copies: code-in-box editions should be at retailers from November 12.
Launch: November 19, global local-midnight release.

What time does GTA 6 preload start in India?

Using Rockstar's rules, the India start times work out like this (our conversion to IST, not a Rockstar table):

Platform	Rockstar's rule	Start in India (IST)
PS5	Midnight local time, Nov 10	12:00 AM, Tuesday Nov 10
Xbox Series X\|S	12 AM GMT, Nov 10	5:30 AM, Tuesday Nov 10

IGN's list of other cities shows how it plays out: New York gets PS5 preload at 12 AM EST on November 10 and Xbox at 7 PM EST on November 9, while Tokyo gets PS5 at 12 AM JST and Xbox at 9 AM JST. For the full launch-day picture, see our GTA 6 release time in India guide.

How big is the GTA 6 download?

Rockstar says the preload file takes "up to 212 GB depending on your device," and PlayStation's own blog tells pre-order buyers to clear a minimum of 212 GB on their PS5. GamesRadar notes that PS5 and Xbox sizes may differ slightly, and an earlier unofficial claim of about 210 GB was in the same range. Preload and final installed sizes can also differ, so leave some headroom. Our earlier file size and PC release explainer covers what was rumored before this confirmation.

Do you need to make room on your PS5 first?

Yes, and it is worth doing before the 10th. A base PS5 has limited internal storage, so many players will need to delete or move games, or add an M.2 SSD. Practical steps:

Check free space under Settings, then Storage, on your console.
Archive games you can re-download, rather than deleting save data.
Use a wired connection if you can, since 212 GB is a long download on Wi-Fi.
Make sure your digital pre-order is already placed, because preloading is for pre-orders.

Who can preload GTA 6?

Rockstar's wording is about digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Physical code-in-box copies should reach shops from November 12, so those buyers can redeem and start downloading from then. GTA 6 is not announced for PC. Check price and edition details in our India price and editions guide.

What should you do before launch night?

Place your digital pre-order early, clear storage, and check that your console's rest-mode downloads and automatic updates are enabled so a day-one patch does not slow you down. If you plan to play at midnight in India, remember that the release uses local midnight, so the launch should hit at the start of the date in your own time zone, going by Rockstar's stated strategy. Rockstar has not published an India-specific table, so confirm on your console's store page.

Any other launch-week extras?

Rockstar will add a free printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida to its website on November 19. A double-sided physical version is planned shortly after launch from the Rockstar Store, at $0.99 on its own or free with any purchase there, per IGN. Boxed copies reportedly do not include a physical map.
