Two of the biggest additions to the Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2 are the Hall of Fallen Foes and the Threads of Time. Both were highlighted in Nintendo's recap of eight new things, and both change how you track and revisit the adventure. Here is what Nintendo and previews have actually said.

Quick summary

What is the Hall of Fallen Foes?

Nintendo describes it as a place where statues of defeated monsters reside, where you can learn about them or take them on again. Perfectly Nintendo adds that it is a mysterious location said to exist somewhere in Hyrule. Coverage of the October 14 overview trailer shows a timed rematch against King Dodongo with a recorded completion time to beat.

Is it called Hall of Fallen Foes or Fallen Heroes?

Both names are in circulation. Nintendo's October 14 written post used "Hall of Fallen Heroes", while the trailer title card and the store listing use "Hall of Fallen Foes", as VideoGamer and others note. It is the same feature.

How do the boss rematches work?

Beat a boss in the story and its statue appears in the hall. Interact with it to read about the creature, and for bosses, start a rematch with a timer running. Battle4Play notes you can inspect enemy models close up and try to improve your times. Nintendo has not announced a reward shop or separate currency for it, per The Click, and nobody has confirmed it is anything but part of the base game.

How is it different from the 3DS Boss Challenge?

The 3DS remake had a Boss Challenge mode unlocked after finishing the game. ThePCEnthusiast describes the Hall as expanding that idea into a proper location with enemy information. Exactly when the hall becomes available in a playthrough has not been spelled out by Nintendo in the sources we saw.

What are the Threads of Time?

It acts as a quest log: you can check your next objective, look back at what you have done, and view a large tapestry that gradually fills in as you advance. Nintendo Wire says it helps keep track of the quest, which should help anyone returning after a break or who gets lost exploring.

What else is new?

The eight highlighted changes are dashing, jumping, gyro aiming, reimagined visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, playing songs with the Switch 2 microphone, the Threads of Time and the Hall of Fallen Foes. Existing Zelda amiibo also give rewards, per Nintendo's post as reported by HowToVideoGame. See our remake vs original breakdown and the IST release time guide. More launches are on the upcoming calendar.

Verdict

The Hall gives repeatable value to boss fights that the original only offered once, and the Threads of Time removes a real friction point. What is still unknown, like rewards and unlock timing, should be clear within days of launch.
