Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan has announced a fully black PS5 Digital Edition called Midnight Black. It goes on sale on Thursday, November 19, 2026, the same day as GTA 6, but it is a Japan-only model. It is not a PS6 and not faster than the PS5 you can already buy.

What is the PS5 Midnight Black?

It is a colour variant of the PS5 Digital Edition, announced by Sony Japan on October 13, 2026, with pre-orders in Japanese stores since October 20. According to the report we reviewed, performance matches the existing PS5: same SSD, 3D audio and PS4 backward compatibility.

Can you buy it in India?

Not officially. Sony says the console works only with the system language set to Japanese and a PlayStation account registered in Japan, for use in Japan. No India, US or Europe release has been announced. Importing it would mean giving up your regular account setup, so it is not worth the hassle for most players.

Is this the PS6 launching with GTA 6?

No, and this is a rumour going around social media. Sony has announced no PS6 date or price; see our PS6 release date explainer. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PS6 version announced.

What should you play GTA 6 on?
